Description

Malden-based nonprofit Housing Families will host its annual Legislative Breakfast on Wednesday, March 25th from 8:30 – 10:00 am to raise awareness of family homelessness in Greater Boston.

Event Details

This event provides families with a platform to share their stories and advocate for policy change.

Housing Families’ Legislative Breakfast is a free event open to all at the Irish American Club, located at 177 West St, Malden, MA. A complimentary light breakfast will be served starting at 8:30 am and the program will run from 9:00 – 10:00 am.

Each year, state and local elected officials are invited to the Legislative Breakfast to hear constituents speak about their experiences with homelessness and housing insecurity. To date, legislators scheduled to attend this year’s breakfast include Senator Jason Lewis, Senator Sal DiDomenico, Representative Christine Barber, Representative Joseph McGonagle, Representative Paul Donato, Representative Steve Ultrino, Malden Mayor Gary Christenson and Medford Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn. Other elected officials are expected to attend.

Housing Families’ CEO Laura Rosi said, “In Massachusetts, the cost of housing is rising significantly faster than wages. Coupled with the scarcity of housing, many families are being displaced, changing the landscape of entire communities. Our focus must be on stabilizing these communities. This event is an opportunity for families who have experienced homelessness to share their stories and educate others about the issue. This is an opportunity to hear about state and local efforts to combat housing instability and learn about ways they can get involved.”

The Legislative Breakfast is presented by Bank of America. Housing Families is also grateful to its sponsors for making this event possible: United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley, Cummings Foundation, Eagle Bank, Kelliher and Callaghan, Lucey Insurance Agency and the MA Cultural Council.
