Hi, my name is Joy Adeyemi.

In 2019, I made a decision to no longer remain silent about the challenges my family faced with mental health by hosting a holiday gala to raise funds and awareness for mental health.

I had never hosted a gala before but went out on a limb to do this with the help of a few good friends.

My story is not one that is unique but it is one that isn’t talked about nearly enough.

Life threw a curveball when my brother was diagnosed with schizophrenia in his final year of college at Penn State University.

For years I kept this from even my closest friends because of the stigma associated with it.

As a woman of color, it made it that much more difficult to even ask for help to process/understand the uncertainty and fear that ensued.

Fast forward 20 years, as a mother, executive, girlfriend, friend, sister, etc. I no longer want to be silent.

I am hosting my second annual gala on December 10th, 2022 in honor of my brother to raise funds for a nonprofit organization called CHL - The Center for Health and Learning that does extensive work to make a difference for people with mental health issues.

This holiday gala will be an opportunity to get fabulous, mingle and discuss the very important topic of mental health.

We will be discussing the psychology of fashion and how the clothes you wear impact your mental health.

Mental health impacts all of us in one way or another. Either you have been impacted or you know someone who has.

Your donations will go a long way to ensure that we continue to educate and raise awareness in our community!
